How to Make a Charcuterie Board

With 3 little girls, a garden, a husband, a business and a never ending to do list, I have a tendency to get distracted. And by distracted I actually mean I feel like a chicken with its head cut off. I’m sure so many of you feel this way too! A few months ago, I read a book by Jessica Smartt called Memory Making Mom.This book is all about creating different kinds of traditions and it has completely changed how I think about my life as a mom. I highly recommend! Anyways, after reading that book I decided to incorporate some traditions into my life. One of those is doing a Charcuterie board for dinner on Sunday. We use paper plates and the thing I like best about it is, no dishes!! You can make it as simple or extravagant as you wish. I use these cutting boards  for the charcuterie board and I love how simple but cute they are.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Charcuterie/ cutting board
  2. An array of meets, cheeses, crackers, fruits and veggies.

Steps:

1. I usually start out with placing cheese on my board. I spread them out and since they don’t move around very easily they can be a good border for crackers. My favorite cheese to have is brie and cream cheese!

2. I then place meat around on the board. I like to use mostly salami and ham, but there are so many options of lunch meat that you can choose from.

3. I then add a few varieties of crackers. Lately we have been getting a specialty bread at the store, adding some butter and spices and then baking it in the oven. I realize that this causes dishes, but they are so worth it!

4. I use fruit and veggies to add some colors to the board. I love this time of year because I get to add some fresh blackberries, strawberries, and cherry tomatoes from our garden. My little ones devour the fruit, I think it’s their favorite part!

5. To add a little garnish I add some herbs. I use what I have in my garden and that usually consists of rosemary and thyme. I just add a few sprigs here and there and call it good!

Weather you want to fill the board for a family meal or have a simple date night, these Charcuterie Boards are a great way to incorporate meaningful traditions in your life. This Sunday dinner has been a way to be intentional with my family in my busy schedule.
