One of my favorite projects of the year is when my oldest daughter Faith, comes up with a fun birthday theme. This year was rainbows, and of course I had to break out the Glowforge to make her some goodies. Last year she picked mermaids and I only had my Cricut. Yes it worked great, but I was blown away by how well the Glowforge cut out my cardstock and I didn’t have to deal with the sticky mats. One year in with my Glowforge and it still amazes me!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Wood- I used 1/8″ MDF
- Acrylic-I used proofgrade thick clear acrylic
- Paint
- Paint Brush
- Cardstock
- Glue
- String
- Glowforge
- Rainbow SVG Bundle
Steps:
- Let’s start with the Rainbow Centerpiece. I used 1/8″ mdf. I cut this as “thick basswood plywood” for material and settings of 130/full. I cut and scored the first side. Then flipped the pieces over and scored the second side. I aligned the mdf with the file as best as I could. I wasn’t too worried about it being perfect since the centerpiece was just going to be used once.
- I used the scored lines to paint the centerpiece. Put the 2 pieces together and you have a centerpiece!
- For the Cake Topper I used proofgrade acrylic and used the settings Glowforge provides. I cut the outside and scored the rainbow lines. Make sure to adjust the size of the cake topper to fit on the cake! I painted inside of the lines for my rainbow. I ended up painting 3 layers and let it dry completely between each layer. Easy peasy!
- For the Confetti I used Cardstock. The settings I used were speed of 500 and power of 68. Settings may need to be adjusted depending on thickness of cardstock.
- For the banner I used the same settings as the confetti. The banner file is just for the rainbow. You will need to add in the name separately. The banner pieces will overlap slightly and I glued each piece to the backing starting with the outside.
- Once the banner is glued, you can add the name and the string.
I always feel satisfied after I’ve made my own decorations. Sure buying them might be easier, but what’s the fun in that?! I’m always up for a little project that let’s me create something fun.
