DIY FFA Plant Sale Labels with a Cricut

2–3 minutes

read

We all know how stressful it can be to do all of the last minute preparations for a FFA Plant sale! I try so hard to give my students the freedom to help prepare, but I also can be a perfectionist and want things to look nice. This project is a great way to get your students involved with the FFA Plant sale, while knowing that your Cricut will make clean cuts and create a professional look for price tags. I love that you can completely customize this project for any plant you are selling!

Here’s what you’ll need

  1. Printer
  2. Paper
  3. Laminator
  4. Laminator paper
  5. Cricut
  6. Mat

Steps:

  1. I start out by creating my design in the Cricut Design Space. I go into detail on the video of my design and how I made it.
  2. I made my label by inserting a circle, and adjusting the size into an oval.
    1. You could use a square and make it any dimension.
  3. Then I inserted a text box labeled “Corn”.
  4. I inserted a second text box labeled “6-pack $1.50”
  5. Next, I inserted an image of corn, because we all now how easy customers get mixed up (and students)!
  6. I then select all parts of my image and use the “flatten” button on Design Space. This is located in the bottom right hand corner. This makes your project ready to print.
  7. Now you are going to “Make it”. Since you are first going to print, your project will need to fit on regular printer paper
  8. Now press “Continue” and then “Send to Printer”
  9. Once you have printed your label, you can laminate it.
  10. Now that it is laminated, your label is ready to cut on the Cricut.
  11. Place your laminated paper on the Cricut mat. The black lines tell your Cricut where to cut.
  12. I chose the “Magnetic Sheet .5mm” for my material because I wanted to make sure the Cricut cut all the way through. You might need to experiment with the material thickness on your own Cricut.
  13. Now insert the mat into your Cricut and cut!
  14. Your label is read to go!

I’m always looking for ways to make my life a little easier in the classroom. There is always something to do, but this will give you one less thing to do next year! Since these labels are laminated, they should last for a few years and hopefully withstand watering if they get wet. Don’t be afraid to get your students involved, what a great SAE using a Cricut could be for them!
